There is many a wonderful recipe that calls for hot peppers. But that same recipe will most likely call for you to de-seed those peppers. It's an important step in the recipe process, as you don't want to make your dish too spicy. Here are some tips on how to de-seed peppers.

From Quick Guide: Basics of Peppers
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Cut the stem off the peppers. Simply lay the peppers on your cutting board, chop off and discard the stem.

  2. Step 2

Slice the peppers lengthwise so that you now have two equal halves.

  3. Step 3

Repeat the process of cutting the peppers lengthwise so that you have 4 equal halves.

  4. Step 4

Trim the inside of the peppers using your knife to cut and remove the "white innards" which are now exposed. These hide the seeds.

  5. Step 5

Wash the peppers under the faucet to remove any residual seeds. This completes the de-seeding process. You are now ready for the next step of your recipe.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you are reticent about de-seeding your peppers, you can buy canned peppers which have already been de-seeded and chopped for your recipe. While not quite as fresh in taste, it will save you some time in the kitchen.
  • Always wash your hands after handling hot peppers. Their oils can burn your eyes if you accidentally rub them. If you are working with chilies that are incredibly hot, wear disposable gloves when handling the peppers and throw them away right after completing the recipe.
