It's easy to get volume in short hair when straightening it. Very fine hair adds a bit of a challenge to the process, but you can overcome this as well. There are different methods of adding volume to hair when straightening it.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Volume enhancing shampoo and conditioner
  • Volumizing gel or mousse
  • Heat protective hair product
  • Blow dryer
  • Round brush (optional)
  • Straightening iron (if needed)
  1. Step 1

Wash and condition your hair with a volume enhancing shampoo and conditioner before styling. There are many different products like this on the market and almost every brand has one.

  2. Step 2

Add a volumizing gel or mousse to the roots of your hair. Be careful not to use too much, or you will weigh your hair down. Follow by adding a hair product that protects against heat styling. This doesn't need to go too close to the roots, but instead apply it to the rest of your hair.

  3. Step 3

Blow-dry your hair using these techniques to get volume. You can hold sections of your hair up with your hand or a round brush while drying the roots to add volume. On the other hand, you can blow dry your hair with your head upside down. If your hair is very thin or fine, use your blow dryer on the lowest or cool setting to avoid damage. Because you have short hair, this won't take long. Don't use a brush until your hair is almost dry.

  4. Step 4

Use a straightening iron if your hair needs to be straighter. Pull the iron straight out away from your head, instead of straight down toward the floor so that you won't iron out the volume achieved in Step 3.
