If you're headed to a big event, make sure you're red-carpet ready. Red carpet events are a little intimidating, but they're off-the-charts glamorous. Read on and learn how to pick a foundation makeup that will look as good and last as long as you do.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Foundation
  • Mirror
  • Loose powder
  • Powder brush
  • Eyebrow brush
  1. Step 1

Know what time of day your event begins, as your makeup needs are drastically different for day and night. For a daytime event, choose long wearing foundation with SPF. If you're walking the red carpet at night, choose a luminous foundation to give you a dewy glow for the cameras.

  2. Step 2

Decide what type of foundation you're most comfortable using. Liquid makeup gives more complete coverage and moisturizes dry skin, while cream-to-powder and powder foundations are easier for beginners to apply and last longer on oily complexions. Whichever you use, make sure you pick a shade that matches your skin perfectly.

  3. Step 3

Use a brush to apply your foundation makeup if you need to cover a lot of splotchiness and blemishes, or use your fingers for the most even coverage. The advantage of brushes is that they work better in some places-the crevices around your nose, under your eyes and on blemishes-than your fingers do.

  4. Step 4

Apply your foundation in a smooth, downward motion. Upward motion emphasizes the tiny hairs or "peach fuzz" on your face. Take extra care to blend your foundation well around your jaw line; the last thing you want on camera is the dreaded line of demarcation.

  5. Step 5

Situate yourself in bright or natural light when you apply your foundation. Use a magnifying mirror if necessary. Above all, make sure you apply your foundation evenly.

  6. Step 6

Set your foundation with powder. Use a large brush and dust translucent loose powder all over your face. Brush your eyebrows after you powder your face to remove any foundation and powder that have settled on them.
