After you have spent a lot of time having nail art applied to your fingernails, it is very important to protect that art and make it look its best. This is where the top coat comes in. Applying a clear, acrylic top coat polish over your fingernail art will make the art shine and pop. It will also protect and seal both the nail art and the fingernail itself.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Clear top coat nail polish
  1. Step 1

Look for a fast drying, clear top coat polish. You can purchase top coat polishes in drug stores or beauty supply stores.

  2. Step 2

Brush a thin layer of top coat nail polish onto a fingernail using the nail polish brush. Start at the base of the nail and move the brush downward along the fingernail.

  3. Step 3

Continue to brush on the top coat nail polish to make sure that you cover all of the nail art and the entire fingernail.

  4. Step 4

Repeat Steps 2 and 3 for the remaining nine fingernails. Be sure to cover each nail completely with the top coat nail polish.

  5. Step 5

Allow the polish to dry between coats of polish.

  6. Step 6

Apply at least two more coats of the top coat nail polish to all of the fingernails. This will make the nail art have an glossy shine. Furthermore, additional coats of the top coat nail polish will give you better protection for your nail art and fingernails.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't dab the top coat onto the nail art. Instead, apply the top coat to the nail art using long strokes.
  • Avoid putting too much top coat polish onto the nail brush. This can cause the top coat to drip or puddle on the nail art itself.
