We've all been there. It's dark, rainy and you hear the familiar sound of a flat tire. Or you look at your tires and see that they are much more worn out than you'd like. If you've gotten a flat tire or have decided it's time to either get new tires or rotate them, the first step is always loosening the lug nuts.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Four way wrench
  • Pry bar or flat head screwdriver
  1. Step 1

Get a pry bar or flat head screwdriver. Slide the end behind the hub cap and apply pressure. This should make the hub cap pop off. Set the hub cap off to the side.

  2. Step 2

Take the four way wrench and insert it onto the first lug nut. Turn the wrench in a counter-clockwise motion. Lug nuts are typically tight, so you may need to change your position to apply the most pressure to get them to turn.

  3. Step 3

Loosen the lug nut by turning the wrench, but don't remove it. You don't want to completely remove the lug nut until the truck is safely on a jack.

  4. Step 4

Move onto the next lug nut. Continue loosening the lug nuts until you have completed each one.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure your truck is turned off and in park before beginning any work.
  • Do not attempt to take off the lug nuts and remove the tire until the truck is securely on a jack. You can seriously injure yourself or the truck.
