Step1
Practice dog massage on a comfortable, soft surface which will protect both you and your dog's joints. Massage can be performed while you dog is laying on her side with her back to you, while she is lying upright on four paws or while she is standing.

Use your fingertips at any point during the massage to help assess how your dog is doing. Your fingertips are far more sensitive than other parts of your hands and can help you to find muscle knots, abnormal bumps, matts or items stuck in the fur, skin irritation or other problems you should be aware of.
Step3
Place your three fingers together, lifting your thumbs and pinky fingers slightly. Start at the tip of your dog's nose, slowing working up the sides of the face, around the ears, down the neck and along the spine. Remember to use very gentle pressure and slow even motions. Make sure that you cover every part of your dog, moving your fingers down the chest and stomach, along the legs and near the base of the tail.
Step4
Find your natural pace and order when using your fingertips to massage your pet. As you work, take note of anything out of the ordinary, including areas which seem hot or cold. This is a great way to either begin or end your massage and can help you to spot problems before they become serious.
