Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Choose a place that is away from any commotion for your dog's massage. A soft spot in a familiar environment is the best setup. Give yourself plenty of time to devote to your dog's massage so he can enjoy himself. If you have to leave right away once you finish, his relaxed state of mind is a wash.
Step2
Have your dog lay on his belly with his head to the floor.
Step3
Kneel beside your dog so that your body is over his. This way you can massage from an overhead position that won't stress your own body.
Step4
Thumb walk down your dog's spine. Start at the base of his head and place each of your thumbs on either side of his spine. Gently nuzzle each thumb, one at a time, along your dog's spine. This action should be done at a medium pace for one minute.
Step5
Rub your hands along the sides of your dog for another minute. Repeat this several times. The repetition is calming and feels like a human backrub—your dog loves this as much as you do.
Step6
Run one palm at a time down each side of the spine. Start with your right hand at the base of your dog's head and run it all the way down to the tail. Now do the same with your left hand on the left side of the spine. Repeat for one minute.
