Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Know that the Crocosmia Emily McKenzie plants grow to be about 2 to 3 feet tall. Therefore, consider this when choosing a place to plant the bulbs. The plants will be healthier and more beautiful if you plant them in groups, with the bulbs about 5 inches apart.

  2. Step 2

Add your Crocosmia to a tropical flower garden, if you have one. The Crocosmia Emily McKenzie is particularly attractive in a tropical garden because of its beautiful orange color.

  3. Step 3

Plant the bulbs 5 inches deep in healthy soil. Give the ground some water, but be careful not to over water. Because the Crocosmia is native to South Africa, these plants will do fine in full sun, but should have some shade in hot climates. Remember that these plants may not bloom until their second season, do don't be alarmed if you don't get any flowers during the first season.

  4. Step 4

Cut the flowers and place them in a vase of warm water to bring inside. Again, the colors of this flower will brighten up any room, the cut flowers are long lasting and the plant will grow new flowers.

  5. Step 5

Spread mulch on the ground to keep the bulbs safe during winter, especially in cold areas. You shouldn't need to lift the bulbs from the ground during colder months.
