Canna lilies are a very easy plant to grow and care for. They only need water and some pest repellant. You can grow Canna lilies, including the Canna Cleopatra most easily from bulbs, and the plants will then multiply very rapidly. Follow these steps to grow Canna Cleopatra bulbs and add a beautiful and tropical feel to your yard, garden or flowerbed.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Know that the Canna Cleopatra is a plant that grows to approximately 4 feet tall, which is shorter than some other Canna varieties. They can still be grown in rows to provide a short privacy screen, or as a backdrop for a flowerbed or in a bed all their own. Therefore, decide where you are going to plant your bulbs.

  2. Step 2

Plant the Canna Cleopatra bulbs after the last frost in your area. Dig holes 3 inches deep for each bulb. There will probably be roots coming off the bulbs, so the holes should be wide enough so that they all fit comfortably. There is no top or bottom of Canna bulbs; you only need to place the bulbs in the ground so the roots and rhizomes extend sideways.

  3. Step 3

Cover the bulbs with dirt and mulch, or compost if you wish. The small Canna plants are tough, and they will push through the ground covering. Expect to see the plants soon, as Cannas grow quickly.

  4. Step 4

Cut the plants at ground level when they die in the fall. In warm climates, you can leave the bulbs in the ground through the winter, especially if the ground in insulated with mulch. They will sprout new plants the following summer. In colder climates, you will need to remove the bulbs and keep them in a cool, dry place during the cold season.
