Learning to tighten a shower head is part of the shower head installation process. There may be several reasons for needing to tighten a shower head, ranging from simply having to stop a leak to wanting a new shower head with better water flow. In any case, tightening a shower head is an easy project for anyone.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Assemble the tools and supplies needed to tighten your shower head. A roll of plumber's tape, a towel or rag and an adjustable wrench, or vice grip, will be sufficient.

  2. Step 2

    Remove the shower head.

  3. Step 3

Apply the strip of plumber's tape clockwise around the threads to keep the tape from loosening when you tighten the shower head. The plumber's tape provides a water-tight seal between the threads and the shower head to prevent leaks.

  4. Step 4

Dampen the hand towel or rag and wrap it around the connector. Place the adjustable wrench or vise grip over the wrapped connector for a snug, scratch-free tightening of the shower head.

  5. Step 5

Tighten the shower head connector clockwise. Be careful not to overtighten it or you'll break the shower head.

  6. Step 6

Remove the wrap from around the connector then turn the water on and check for leaks. If you do end up with a leak, rewrap the connector and turn it slowly until the leak stops.
