Things You'll Need:
- Tape measure
- Calculator
- Pencil
- Paper
-
Step 1
Make sure the room you are measuring is free of clutter. Move furniture out of the way so you can get a clear and concise measurement.
-
Step 2
Measure the length of the room. Place one end of the tape measure at the beginning of the wall and pull the other end until you reach the end of the wall. Record the length measurement, in feet, on a piece of paper. For accuracy, take the measurement again.
-
Step 3
Measure the width of the room. Place one end of the tape measure at the beginning of the wall and pull the other end until you reach the end of the wall. Record the width measurement, in feet, on the same piece of paper. For accuracy, take the measurement again.
-
Step 4
Multiply the length of the room by the width of the room. Divide the result by 9 to get the square yards of the room. If your result has decimal places, such as 12.67, round up to the next largest number, which in this case, would be 13.
