Christmas is a special, festive time of year that is filled with many types of decorations. After the holidays, packing these decorations away safely can be a challenge. With a few simple tips, you can pack your Christmas decorations away easily, so they will be ready to enjoy during the next holiday season. Follow these tips to pack away your Christmas decorations.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Label each type of decoration and its location as you remove it. Keep all lights for the tree together, along with all garland and ornaments, and plan to pack them in one area so all tree trimming materials are easy to find when you unpack them.
Step2
Use packing materials, such as bubble wrap, tissue paper or packing peanuts to protect delicate ornaments and figurines. Store these fragile items in a sectioned cardboard box, separate from other decorations. Be sure to label the box as fragile or breakable and store it on top of other boxes in your attic, basement or storage area so it doesn't get crushed.
Step3
Pack holiday candles flat in a box and store them in a cool place. Candles that are stored in warmer areas can lose their shape and festive scent.
Step4
Wrap each strand of lights around a can or jar. This helps prevent the lights from becoming tangled. Colored lights should be stored in a cool, dark place to prevent color fading.
Step5
Invest in a wreath box to store your Christmas wreath. This octagonal shaped box, available at most discount retail stores, fits the unique shape of the wreath perfectly and allows it to lay flat. This prevents the wreath from becoming crushed or misshapen.
Step6
Fold Christmas linens carefully and hang them on skirt hangers to keep them from wrinkling during storage. Covering several hangers with plastic dry cleaner bags or garment bags will prevent the linens from becoming dusty.

Tips & Warnings

  • Take inventory of all of your Christmas decorations while they are still displayed. Using a small notebook, record how many of each type of decoration you have. You can also include a digital photograph of each area of your home to serve as reference for the next time you set up your holiday decorations.
