Step 1
Select containers to store your items. The clear ones allow you to see inside the box. Red or green storage boxes could indicate that they house your Christmas decorations.
-
Step 2
Organize your decorations into categories to make the labeling easier. Use one box for greenery and wreaths, one for keepsake ornaments and maybe another for special holiday dishes and candle holders. The idea is to group like items together.
-
Step 3
Wrap your decorations carefully in tissue paper so you can move the storage containers around without disturbing the contents. Use other small containers and decorative boxes to fill and pack into the main storage container to further organize your items.
-
Step 4
Make a contents label for each storage bin. Use a word processor or a marker to make the writing large enough to see through the clear boxes. Place the label inside the box facing out, so it's readily visible. If you're using solid colored boxes, place the label in a plastic sheath and tape it to the outside of the box.

Step 5
Think of ways to categorize your Christmas decorations further. For instance, designate one box as the first one to open. Put items in this box used earlier in the holiday season, rather than dragging everything out at once. Include on the labels whether the containers hold indoor or outdoor decorations and other information, such as the area of your home where you usually use the decorations and whether the contents are fragile.
