Flat panel Christmas decorations are easy and super cute, and best of all, they don't require any sewing. Get the whole family involved in this Christmas crafts project. Just make sure you supervise wee ones if they use scissors or hot glue. Read on and learn how to cut out these fantastic ornaments.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Christmas fabric
  • Pinking shears
  • Scissors
  • Felt
  • Fusible webbing

Step1
Choose a Christmas-themed fabric with images that are large and distinct enough that you can cut them out. Designers make holiday fabrics with crafts like these Christmas decorations in mind, so you shouldn't have any trouble finding one to suit you. Either pick a fabric to match your other Christmas decorations, or if you're doing this craft with kids, choose a fabric that appeals to them.
Step2
Cut out your Christmas picture with pinking shears. Pinking the fabric prevents it from raveling. Later, we'll use fusible webbing to help prevent raveling as well.
Step3
Trim a piece of felt in a color that coordinates with the picture you chose for your Christmas decoration so that it's larger on all sides than your picture by an inch or more. The felt forms a backdrop for your Christmas decoration so your picture really stands out. Cut the felt with regular scissors, not pinking shears.
Step4
Use scissors to cut a piece of fusible webbing so that it's exactly the same size as your Christmas picture. Later, we'll fuse the webbing to the back of the picture for further insurance against raveling. This makes your Christmas decorations more durable.
