How to Create Elegant and Formal Updo Hairstyles

Some occasions call for a formal hair do, and elegant hairstyles are all the rage. You see them on the runway and in magazines, but you don't need a professional to make your hair look great for that special occasion. You can create elegant and formal hairstyles on your own.

Start with hair that you can work with easily. This can either be freshly washed hair with added product for hold and shine, or hair that hasn't been washed for a day or two. You know your hair, and how it performs under pressure, so keep your personal hair in mind before you begin.

Pull your hair back, away from the face. Pin the front of your hair back,at the nape of the neck with bobby pins or glittery barrettes. This leaves you with long hair in the back, and for curly hair, it is one of many romantic yet elegant formal hairstyles.

Create an elegant and formal hairstyle by simply twisting your hair up in a bun. To do this, you simply twist the hair, and begin folding it into a coiled shape as you twist. When your hair is in a bun, secure it with bobby pins and hairspray for added hold.

Take the front section of your hair, about an inch or two at the hair line, and separate it from the rest of your hair. Tease the hair at the crown of your head to give it volume. Then, cover the teased hair with the sleek hair from the front, and pull it all back in an elegant ponytail for a formal evening look.

Choose a hairstyle that matches your attitude. If you are a formal, straight-laced kind of gal, then go for a French twist. Pull your hair back to the nape of your neck, twist it back and up. Tuck any left over hair into the twisted portion on the back of your head, and pin the entire do in place. Add some hairspray for extra hold.

Make easy elegant and formal hairstyles with your hair down. Especially if it has a lot of body and bounce to it naturally, you can add curl, spray and pin a few strands back away from your face with decorative bobby pins.
