Learning how to play the guitar can be an exciting and fun experience. One of the key techniques to use when learning to play the guitar is finger picking and inside out finger picking. You can learn these technique to improve your guitar playing.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Use the four middle strings, the second through fifth strings. Place your thumb close to the two bottom strings (the fourth and fifth strings), your first (or index) finger is going to play the second string, and your second (middle) finger is going to play the third string.

  2. Step 2

Play the inside out pattern. This pattern is done by plucking the strings in the following order: Thumb (on the fifth string), second finger, thumb (on the fourth string), first finger. Practice this pattern slowly a few times to get the rhythm of it down. This is used in many songs.

  3. Step 3

Bring the technique up to speed to hear how it is supposed to sound when being played quickly or in a song or with a band. Once you have this technique down, you can incorporate it into other techniques and songs, plus try the same inside out technique using other strings and chords.

  4. Step 4

Try the other half of this technique. It's called the inside out pitch. You pluck the outside two strings, thumb plus two, thumb. It's outside, inside, outside, inside, outside. Run through this a couple of times and your fingers and ears will become more familiar with how it is supposed to be play and how it's supposed to sound.
