A skill imperative for any running back is the ability to spot gaps and move through them quickly for a big gain. Reggie Bush exemplifies this ability. Even if the gap is small, Bush may identify it and deftly move through for one of his electrifying runs.

Instructions

Difficulty: Challenging

Step1
Keep your head up while carrying the ball. It is human nature to lower your head when nearing the line of scrimmage. However, if you do this you can't spot the gaps in the defense. Bush runs tough, but always keeps his head up to scan the defense for gaps. Once he spots a gap, there is no hesitation as he sprints through it.
Step2
Maintain your balance as you near the line of scrimmage. If you keep your balance and your shoulder square to the line, it is easier to spot the gaps in the defensive line. Bush runs low to the ground and relies on good footwork to keep his balance.
Step3
Remain patient and wait for the gaps to open. Despite being one of the fastest running backs in football, Bush patiently waits for a gap to appear. Impatient runners who try to make gaps where there are none may storm into oncoming defenders.
Step4
Study the running plays thoroughly. If you know what the blocking assignments of your linemen are, you'll develop a sense for where and when the gaps will appear. Bush is not only physically gifted but he is a student of the game. He knows his teammates' blocking assignments and plays off them.
