Chris Paul works constantly on becoming the best basketball player he can be. His shooting is an area where he continually improves each and every time he steps onto the court. If a person wishes to shoot better outside the paint, there are a few tips that an individual can use to improve his shooting just as Chris Paul has.

Instructions

Difficulty: Challenging

Step1
Use your dribble to create space for the outside shot. Chris Paul is not the biggest player on the court but he consistently shoots over taller players by using his dribble to get the defender off balance. Then with the defender on his heels, Chris Paul rises up to shoot outside the paint.
Step2
Fake a shot to get the defender off his feet and then shoot the ball. Chris Paul is great at using the basketball as decoy. He will use the ball fake to get the defender in the air and then will take the jump shot and usually score.
Step3
Practice on your shooting skills every chance you get. Chris Paul has improved his shooting percentage each successive year by practicing his jump shot every single day. Shooting the basketball is about good mechanics and the ability to repeat those mechanics on every shot. This comes from constant repetition and that is how Chris Paul improves his shooting outside of the paint.
Step4
Set your feet before you take a jump shot. Chris Paul has improved his shooting so much because he sets his feet and gets proper balance before every jump shot. The power and distance for a jump shot comes from a player's legs and his balance. Proper footwork and steadiness is one of the reasons why Chris Paul is becoming one of the best point guards in basketball.
