Steve Nash is a two-time National Basketball Association MVP primarily because of his ability to make everyone around him better. He does this with a wide array of passes that offer his teammates easy scoring opportunities. A key component of his passing skill is the ability to see the floor and make the correct pass.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Keep your head up on the basketball court. Too often, a player will put his head down while dribbling, making it impossible for him to see the entire floor. If you watch Steve Nash, his head is always up and scanning the floor for open teammates.

  2. Step 2

Pass to the open person. Steve Nash always looks for the teammate who has the best chance of scoring. This makes his teammates work harder, because they know if they are open, Steve will see them and pass over the basketball.

  3. Step 3

Use the dribble to create space for passing lanes. Sometimes Nash looks out of control on the court. He seems to be dribbling wildly, but there is a method to his madness. Nash dribbles to probe and make defenses rotate so he can create passing lanes through which he sees an open teammate.

  4. Step 4

Study the opposing defense and your own playbook. Steve Nash pores over hours of video and practices frequently to get comfortable with his teammates' shot preferences. If a player knows what his teammates and the defense are going to do on a particular play, he can "see" the floor even if his vision is obstructed. If you study film and use what you learn in practice, you will sense where the open pass is even if you were blindfolded.
