Despite being shorter and slower than the average National Football League quarterback, Drew Brees has become one of the best at his trade. He uses cunning and smarts to make pinpoint passes and daring escapes from oncoming defenders.

Instructions

Difficulty: Challenging

Step1
Study the playbook and know every player's responsibility as well as your own. Drew Brees makes a point to understand the entire playbook for his team, and the responsibilities of his teammates. This way he can know where the other players are if the play breaks down or if onrushing defenders impair his field of vision.
Step2
Stay calm on every play no matter what the situation. In football parlance, this is "pocket presence." Even if everything seems to go wrong on a particular play, you rarely see Drew Brees panic and loose his cool. He usually stays calm and collected while dodging defenders to complete a pass.
Step3
Use passing angles and ball fakes to improvise plays. Football at times is a game of improvisation in which the best plans can go awry. Brees uses unorthodox passing angles and pump fakes to pull defenders out of position when a defense has read the play correctly and seemingly covers all the available options.
Step4
Anticipate what the defense may do on a particular play. Drew Brees studies hours of game film to determine what defense a certain team will employ under given circumstance. This can pay off on game day when the defense calls a blitz, and then you call an audible to counter the defensive play.
