Step 1
Remove the old front speaker cover to gain access to the front speaker screws that hold it in to the dash. If you have front speakers in your door panel, you have to remove the door panel to gain access to these. The door panel can be removed by removing any screws and prying it loose. The front speaker cover can be removed by locating the retaining clips and using a screwdriver to pop it loose.
-
Step 2
Use a screwdriver to remove the screws holding the front speaker in. Now that you have removed the cover or door paneling, the screws should be easy to locate. The speaker could also be held in by retaining clips. Set the screws somewhere safe so you know where they are for installation of the new speaker.
-
Step 3
Remove the front speaker from the housing carefully. This is relatively easy if they are located in the door, but for the ones in the dash, it can be a little trickier. You may have to move it around and tilt it a little to get it past the dash. Once removed, locate the wires that connect to it. Usually, these are just two small wires that are either attached by retaining clips or soldered on to the speaker. If there are clips, remove them. If it is soldered on, clip the wires. You will replace the ends when installing the new speakers.
-
Step 4
Take time to inspect the new front speakers before installing. See if they have retaining clips for the wires, or if you will have to solder them on. Make sure they fit in the area from which you removed the old speaker, and check for damage to the new speaker. If there is damage, either before or after installation, don't be afraid to return, or exchange it.
