Learning the basic salsa stance allows you to salsa dance with a partner and in clubs even if you are a novice. The stance accommodates nearly every song and is versatile, allowing you to add in different moves and combinations. Here is how to do the basic salsa stance.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Stand with your feet together and look forward. Hold your hands in front of you between waist and shoulder level.

  2. Step 2

Step forward with your left foot on the first count. As you step forward, bring your left hand up slightly.

  3. Step 3

Bring your right foot up, as if you were stepping forward, but bring it back down in the same spot on the second count. Your right hand should rise slightly while your left hand drops.

  4. Step 4

Move your left foot back to its starting position so your feet are together on the third count, again raising your left hand slightly as your right hand drops. You should be back to your starting position after every three counts.

  5. Step 5

Raise your right hand slightly as you step backward one step with your right foot the first count.

  6. Step 6

Lift your left foot on the second count, as if you were stepping back with this foot as well, but let it fall in the same place it was. Your right hand should fall as your left hand rises.

  7. Step 7

Return your right foot to its starting position so your feet are together on the third count, raising your right hand while your left hand falls.
