If you are looking for a cheap way to make an outdoor fireplace, you might want to consider using an old washing machine tub. It should last at least one year before it rusts through, but will serve you well until then.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

Step1
Obtain a washing machine that no longer works. If you don't have one, ask friends and family if they have one or know someone who does. You can also try leaving a message online at Craigslist or Freecycle, letting people know that you are looking for an old washing machine.
Step2
Open the washer lid and remove the agitator. You may need to remove the top of it first to expose the bolt that holds it in. Remove the metal collar located at the center of the tub.
Step3
Turn the washer on its side. Disconnect the electrical harness from the motor and then disconnect the drain and pump hoses. Remove the motor assembly by taking out the bolts that hold it in. Next, you should be able to remove the top of the washer by either unscrewing the bolts or prying it off. Remove the entire tub assembly from the machine. Take any other parts off the tub.
Step4
Add legs if you wish. To do this, drill holes in the bottom of the tub and push bolts of the desired length through the holes from the inside of the tub. Attach a nut to the bolt on the outside of the tub to keep the bolt attached. You can adjust the lengths of the legs by moving the nuts.
Step5
Build a fire in your new outdoor fireplace. Place a screen or grill on the top to contain any airborne embers if you wish.
