Help Children Remember the Rules

Childhood is a time for learning and having fun. It is also a time for rules and learning what is right and what is wrong. For a child, remembering the rules can be extremely hard. Yelling at your kids for breaking the rules doesn't help. Here are a few steps on how to help children remember the rules.

Instructions

    • 1

Tell them rules and post them on a poster board on the wall. This way they will be visible and if the child ever forgets the rules, he can check the rule board.

    • 2

Make the child write the rules down on a piece of paper. You can have the child write each rule a couple of times. The repetition will help the kid remember the rules a lot easier. Each time the kid forgets and breaks a rule, have him write it 10 or 20 times.

    • 3

Create a game out of the rules. Kids usually remember things a lot better when they play a game. Give them a sticker each time they remember the rules and take a sticker away each time they break a rule. When they reach a certain number of stickers, give the kid a reward.

Stay calm. Yelling at a kid because they broke a rule or forgot a rule is not going to help them remember the rules. So, when they forget a rule, simply talk to the child. Ask him why he broke the rule and what he can do to avoid breaking it in the future. If the child can take responsibility for his own actions, he will soon remember the rules better.
