How to Make a Quick and Easy Sausage Bake

If you need a delicious breakfast in a hurry, a quick and easy sausage bake might be just the ticket. You can throw it together in nothing flat, and you have a hot dish special enough for a holiday brunch or a pot luck meal.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Sausage
  • Butter
  • Slices of bread, cubed
  • Frozen diced hash browns, thawed
  • Red pepper, diced
  • Green pepper, diced
  • Sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • Mushrooms, chopped
  • Half and half
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  1. Step 1

    Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

  2. Step 2

    Cook the sausage in a large, heavy skillet and drain the fat.

  3. Step 3

    Butter a large casserole dish and place the sausage in the bottom.

  4. Step 4

    Stir in the thawed hash browns, chopped red and green peppers and mushrooms, and stir so the ingredients are thoroughly combined.

  5. Step 5

    Put the eggs in a small bowl and whisk in the half and half, salt and freshly ground pepper. Pour the mixture over the ingredients in the casserole dish.

  6. Step 6

    Sprinkle the grated cheese over the top.

  7. Step 7

    Cover the casserole dish and bake it for 30 minutes.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you need a breakfast casserole and have no sausage on hand, ham or bacon can be substituted.
  • Turkey sausage can be substituted for pork sausage for a lower-calorie dish with no red meat.
