Gliding on rollerblades looks good and helps you skate better. Rollerblading on one foot at a time gives your other foot a rest and lets you go farther with less effort.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Start rollerblading and gain some speed using steady strokes. Set your balance by squatting down slightly with your weight evenly distributed.

  2. Step 2

Push off with your left foot. Shift your weight to your right leg. Extend your left foot as far as possible. Hold your left foot up for a few seconds. Prepare to switch feet as you start to slow down.

  3. Step 3

Draw your left foot to the back and place on the ground next to your right foot. Continue to roll on both feet, making a few strokes to maintain your speed.

  4. Step 4

Repeat the glide on the other side. Push out with your right foot and extend it as far as possible. Hold your right foot up for as long as possible then draw it to the back and return it to the ground.

  5. Step 5

Repeat on alternating feet in smooth motions.

Tips & Warnings
  • Always keep your knees firm but slightly bent when in-line skating. Weight should be centered over your feet when both feet are on the ground and over one foot when gliding.
  • Gliding will help you conserve energy on longer skating trips. The less time you have both feet on the ground the more efficient you become.
  • You may need to keep both feet on the ground for a few feet in between glides to maintain your speed and check your balance.
