Not everyone gives away their trust to just any friend. A person may have experienced a past betrayal that makes her hesitant about trusting new friends. If you want to get someone's trust, you'll have to spend some time working at it.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Take things slowly. You can't expect to get someone's trust overnight. The more time you spend together and get to know each other, the easier it'll be to trust one another.
Step2
Speak honestly and openly about everything. You have to seem trustworthy if you want to get a new person to put faith in you. If she asks you a question, always give her a straight answer. When you lie you hurt your credibility.
Step3
Treat everyone with respect. If you're a gossip or tend to talk about people behind their backs, you'll build a bad reputation. People may have a hard time trusting you.
Step4
Make him feel comfortable with you. Keep your body language in mind when trying to get someone's trust. Maintain eye contact and try to keep from folding your arms across your chest.
Step5
Go out of your way for a friend. To get a friend's trust, you should try to do something nice for her. Offer to help out with a problem she's having or help her out with an errand. If you seem dependable, your friend will give her trust freely.

Tips & Warnings

  • Don't try too hard to get someone to trust you. You may come across as desperate and the person may question your motives.
  • When you lose someone's trust, you may have a difficult time earning it back if you committed a serious offense. You have to apologize and prove to him that you will never betray him again.
