How to Apply Foundation for a Natural Makeup Look on Olive Complexion

Contributor
By eHow Contributing Writer

Olive complexions are more difficult to apply foundation to. This is mainly because the majority of makeup is designed for warmer skin tones. The best thing you can do for a natural look in your makeup is to get a makeup that matches the undertone and skin tone of your skin. The rest is just blending the makeup.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Buy a makeup with the right undertone for you skin. Makeup typically comes in two different undertones--warm and cool. Olive complexions need makeup with a cool yellow, green or bronze undertone to it. This will help the makeup match your skin color.

  2. Step 2

Get makeup to match your skin color. You want to match the makeup to your skin because the closer it is to your natural color, the better it looks on you. The best way to do this is to try the makeup on. Apply the makeup to the area around your lower jaw since that usually has the most even skin color, or the palm of your hand.

  3. Step 3

Wash your face and use a moisturizer before applying makeup. This will help make blending the makeup easier and make the makeup last longer.

  4. Step 4

Dab a small amount of foundation along your face. Make sure not to use too much, you can always use a little more but getting rid of too much makeup is much harder.

  5. Step 5

Dampen a round or wedge makeup sponge with warm water. Use the sponge to gently blend the makeup in circular motions from the center of your face outward. Make sure to blend in the makeup as you move from one area of your face to the next.

  6. Step 6

Blend the makeup along your jaw into your neck so that there are no lines along your jawline. Do the same around your hairline to remove an excess makeup.

  7. Step 7

Check your makeup in natural light. Natural light will show you the areas where the makeup isn't blended enough, where there are lines or other small flaws.
