Step 1
Begin in the basic Muay Thai boxing stance by placing your legs about shoulder width apart with your dominant leg behind you. Your weight should be shifted onto your front foot and your hands should be lifted to your chest.

Push off of your back foot slightly as you begin the roundhouse kick. This will help give you momentum in the kick. As you push, lift onto the ball of your non-dominant foot and rotate slightly to the side. The twisting motion is extremely important in the Muay Thai boxing roundhouse kick, as it will add force to your blow.

Step 3
Swing your dominant foot forward hard and fast. The Muay Thai roundhouse kick is different from other forms of martial arts in that you do not bend your knee. Instead, the swing is from the hip.

Flex the foot of your kicking leg to add force to the kick and protect your bones and muscles. Again, the Muay Thai roundhouse kick is different from other forms in that you should strike with your shin and not with your foot. This increases the impact and makes the kick far more powerful.

Step 5
Keep your arm up at your chest for the entire kick. It is easy to lose your balance during the roundhouse kick, therefore many boxers drop their outside arm for balance. However, this opens you up for an attack. Practice the roundhouse kick slowly to perfect each step, only adding speed and force when you have mastered the move.
