Pushing a coin through a table is an easy trick that can be performed at a moment's notice. It's especially entertaining when no one is expecting a magic trick, and the performer will already have a napkin in the lap to help with the trick.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Coin
  • Dinner napkin
  1. Step 1

Place a coin on the table or use a coin that's already on the table. It should be small enough that when you close your fingers over it, you completely cover it.

  2. Step 2

Pretend to pick up the coin by sliding it toward you and off the table. Pretend to grasp the coin between your first two fingers and your thumb. In reality, you will drop the coin onto your dinner napkin.

  3. Step 3

Lean forward saying that you want your audience to see what you're going to do, still pretending to hold the coin in one hand and keeping your other hand under the table as if you're resting it in your lap. When the bicep of the arm that's under the table touches the edge of the table, reach back and pick up the coin in your lap.

  4. Step 4

Tap your fingers on the top of the table. At the same time, tap the coin against the underside of the table so it provides the sound effect.

  5. Step 5

Press your fingers on the table as if you're setting the coin down. At the same time, press the coin against the underside of the table, making the distinct metallic slapping sound.

  6. Step 6

Rub your fingers on the top of the table, saying that you are pushing the coin through the table. Remove your fingers to show that the coin isn't there.

  7. Step 7

Lean back and remove your other hand from under the table. Show the coin.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure you tap your fingers on the top of the table and the coin under the table at exactly the same time.
  • Remember that the hand under the table is supposed to be there to catch the coin. A slight movement with this hand will help in convincing your audience that you have actually caught the coin.
