How to Get Good Grades Without Being a Know-It-All

When you are smart, you sometimes can face ridicule from classmates, especially as a teenager. Teachers recognize your intelligence as hard work, while other students might only recognize it as kissing up or being a "nerd." You shouldn't have to hide your intelligence, but there are ways to get good grades without getting teased or bullied about it.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1
Practice self restraint when raising your hand to answer questions. Remember that most teachers will recognize your hard work through other means and keep your in class answering to a minimum.
Step2
Stay organized by keeping track of assignments and test dates. This doesn't mean you need to carry a big organizer (subjecting you to more teasing), but jot down those important dates and if you need to, transfer them to your computer or PDA at home.
Step3
Take your time with tests. If you are a fast test taker, you might be tempted to hand in your test as soon as you're done; review it again, and never be the first one to hand in a test.
Step4
Relax and sit back. Seeming overly anxious or eager to learn can bring potentially negative attention your way.
Step5
Do quality work. Slacking off in school to avoid being labeled as a nerd or know-it-all only hurts you in the long run.

Tips & Warnings

  • Bullying can get serious. If you are being bullied about being a know-it-all or nerd, let someone know.
  • Don't alienate your teachers. You can avoid appearing like a nerd without mouthing off or being disrespectful.
  • Don't let your urge to fit in make you sacrifice your future. When it comes right down to it, your education is very important, and being a "know-it-all" is far better than being ignorant.
