How to Disable IM Forwarding on AOL Instant Messenger

IM forwarding on AOL Instant Messenger is a convenient form of communication for those who use instant messaging a lot. However, whether you don't know how the service became enabled or you just aren't sure how to disable it, the following steps will help you do that three different ways: through AOL MyMobile Web Site, AOL 8.0 Plus and AOL 9.0 Optimized, or in AIM 5.2 or later.

Instructions

Disabling IM Forwarding through MyMobile Web Site

1. Use your user name and password to log in to AOL Mobile.

2. Locate the mobile device you wish to disable.

3. Select "Turn Off" under the Mobile AIM section.

4. Choose Continue in the "Turn Mobile AIM Forwarding Off" box.

Disabling IM Forwarding through AOL 8.0 Plus or 9.0 Optimized

1. Choose "Setup" on your buddy list in AOL 8.0 Plus or 9.0 Optimized.

2. Find the box that says "Forward IMs to" and make sure it's unchecked. This is in the Mobile IM Forwarding Setup dialog box.

3. Press "Continue."

4. Select "Close" when the IM Forwarding Setup Complete dialog box appears.

Disabling IM Forwarding through AIM 5.2 or later

1. Select the Prefs option in your Buddy List window.

2. Choose IM/Chat under the Category list.

3. Locate the IM Forwarding button and select it.

4. Log onto the Screen Name Service when prompted.

5. Find the box that says "Forward IMs to" and make sure it's unchecked. This will be in the Mobile AIM Forwarding Setup dialog box.

6. Press the "Continue" button

7. Click on the "Close" button when the IM Forwarding Setup Complete dialog box appears.
