When it comes to your skin, one of the things that can do long lasting damage is our friend the sun. With harmful UV rays pounding down onto earth, it doesn't take much exposure before your light skin tans or even burns. The cumulative effect can result in wrinkly, leather skin at a premature age. Here are some tips on how to keep a light skin tone.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Sunscreen
  • Long clothing

Step1
Wear sunscreen year round. This may seem ludicrous, but the fact is that even on cold weather days, prolonged exposure to the sun can cause you to burn. If you are going to be partaking in winter activities such as skiing, snow boarding or even just building a snowman, throw on some sunscreen. Your skin will thank you for it.
Step2
Cover your body in clothing. Even when it is hot outside, you can make a concerted effort to limit your exposure to the sun. This doesn't mean you have to wear a sweater when it's 90 degrees, but you can certainly find hats with mesh, or long sleeved t-shirts made of cotton. The more you cover your body, the lighter your skin tone will stay.
Step3
Limit your exposure to the sun. This is the best way to hold onto your light skin tone. Stay indoors during the early and mid-afternoon when the sun's rays are the strongest. Plan activities so that they occur early in the morning or around dusk.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you have to tan for an event, use the spray tan. They last for several days and will keep your skin youthful underneath the pigment. There are even home spray tans, which will save you a bunch of money and allow you to reapply as needed.
  • Wear sunscreen during long trips in the car. Think of your car windshield as a magnifying glass. As the sun beats in, your skin is exposed to it. So even if it is 20 degrees outside, the rays of the sun are hitting your face on the inside.
