Internet surfing leaves a trail of information hidden in your PC that tells anyone with the skills to access it where you've been and what you've been doing online. Protect your privacy and that of your PC by erasing your Internet browsing history. Repeat the process often to erase your Internet history files and keep your machine clean of problem material.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1
Exit any programs you have running to avoid accidentally erasing needed files.
Step2
Bring up "Control Panel" and double-click "Internet Options."
Step3
Go to the tab labeled "General" and click "Clear History."
Step4
Click "Yes," and then click "OK." Internet history files are now removed from view, but they are still residing on your PC and can be accessed by any Information Technology professional.
Step5
Download a free PC cleaner, eraser or shredder software such as ParetoLogic Privacy Controls to completely delete unwanted files, including Internet history files, from your PC. To find and erase the most unwanted information so that recovery of certain information is impossible for any professional, select software that meets government or military standards.
Step6
Run the software to scan your PC for deleted and hidden Internet history files. The file erasing software gives you a list of file types to choose from. For maximum privacy control select them all and let the software scan and tell you what Internet history files are still hiding on your machine.
Step7
Select the level of privacy you want from the erasing software and erase the hidden Internet history files from your system. Select government or military standard for the highest level of privacy protection.
