How to Make a Feminine Basket for a Daughter

When your daughter is approaching the age where she is soon to start her period, or when her first period comes, you need to talk to her about the changes in her body. She looks to you for information and advice, as well as product recommendations and instructions. Be prepared for the talk by making up a feminine basket to give her when it is time for the talk.

1. Choose a pretty, feminine basket. Wicker is nice, but if the basket is plain, be sure to dress it up with flowers, hearts, lace and bows. The basket should be a celebration of your love for your daughter and an embrace of womanhood.
2. Think of some of your daughter's favorite indulgences. Maybe a perfume she likes that is too expensive to buy often, a special bubble batch scent, or a good book. Put a few of her special treats into her basket.
3. Determine what types of feminine products you think she needs and should be exposed to, then and add some of each to her basket. Don't forget to consider all options. Although you might want to recommend that she use pads the first couple of years of her period, you should also give her a small box of tampons and explain to her how they are used.
4. Remember all the things that are going to change in her body, not just the onset of menstruation. Include products in the basket that address each of these changes. For example. a tube of acne cream, a bra if she isn't wearing one yet, deodorant and feminine wipes.
5. Add a note or a card to the basket, reminding your daughter that she is loved. Write in the note that you are there for her when she has questions. Tell her you are proud of her.

Tips & Warnings

• It is not necessary to take each item out of the basket as you are talking about them to your daughter. You want to keep your talk, and the giving of the basket, personal. Do not turn it into a lecture. However, you might want to give her the basket before you start talking. That way if she has questions while you are talking, or gets curious about the items, she can take them out and look at them.
