How to Get a Choke Submission From Back Mount Position in Jiu Jitsu

Jiu jitsu is a martial art, competitive sport and self-defense technique which uses leverage and balance to overcome an opponent. In Jiu jitsu, placing yourself behind your opponent is the most advantageous position, offering many opportunities to gain control. The choke submission is just one of many positions you can use from the back position.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Consider using the choke position when you have maneuvered your opponent face down on the mat and you are holding him in an advantageous mount position. Regardless of your mount position, if your opponent is face down and your are holding him from above, you can get into the choke submission in Jiu jitsu.

  2. Step 2

    Reach your hands under your opponent's arms and grab his collar with each hand. For maximum control, grab the collar as high as possible and grip tightly so that he cannot free himself. Place your left knee next to his and fall into his body slightly, pinning him to the mat.

  3. Step 3

    Pull your elbows tightly into your opponents body and then lean into your left knee. With as much force as possible, roll to the left so that your opponent is now resting on top of you. Do not release your grip on the collar.

  4. Step 4

    Lift your knees as your roll, keeping them pressed into your opponent's body. As you come onto your back, swing your ankles in so that the hold and rest on the inner thighs of your opponent. Release your right arm from the collar and cross it in front of your opponent's neck, gripping your own shoulder. If you cannot reach your shoulder, grip your own collar.

  5. Step 5

    Finish the Jiu jitsu choke position by releasing your left hand and crossing it over the top of your right forearm. Squeeze your elbows in and press your left hand tightly against your opponent's head.
