Going out to the movies is a common first date. Here's how to avoid pitfalls and make your first date at the movies successful.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy
Step1
Pick a good movie. First date movies should not be overly sentimental or emotional. Save the sappy tearjerkers or obvious chick-flicks for later in your relationship. Good first date movies are ones that have broad appeal and are not necessarily very deep. Look to comedies or action movies that are fun to watch but don't make you uncomfortable with the subject matter. Movies with sex scenes or those about relationships can be a bit awkward on the first date.
Step2
Go in a group. Movie dates can be fun double dates or group dates. Going in a crowd takes the pressure off on a first date and can be a good way to break the ice. Make sure to give your date your attention when on a group or double date. Even if you bring friends along, your focus should be on your date, not your buddies.
Step3
Share snacks. Sharing a tub of popcorn or a box of Junior Mints can be a way to connect on a first date, and lends a little bit of intimacy to an otherwise public affair. Offer to pick up the tab on snacks if your date bought the tickets, and use the experience of sharing a snack to learn a little bit about your date's likes and dislikes. Your preferred movie snack can say a lot about your personality.
Step4
Engage in a little hand holding. If the chemistry is right, make the first move and attempt to hold hands with your date in the theater. It may be cliche, but putting your arm around your date or holding his hand can help the sparks fly. Nobody wants to see a couple making out in a movie theater so save the smooching for later.
