A beautiful bow is the perfect finish to a wrapped present, a floral arrangement or a wreath. Bows look complicated, but with practice, you can easily master the craft. If you haven't time to make the perfect Puffy Bow, cut and glue your way to the perfect Faux Bow.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

    Puffy Bow

  1. Step 1

Start with ribbon 3/4 inch to 1 inch wide. Hold one end of the ribbon between the thumb and palm. Wrap the ribbon around the hand five or six times.

  2. Step 2

Pull the wrapped ribbon from the hand. Fold it in half.

  3. Step 3

Use sharp, pointed scissors and cut two small V-shapes opposite one another into the fold of the wrapped ribbon. Make sure not to cut all the way through between the Vs.

  4. Step 4

Use fine wire and wrap it around the ribbon into the cut-out Vs. Twist the wire tightly up against the ribbon.

  5. Step 5

Work from the inside out and separate the loops one at a time, alternating left and right. Twist each of the loops to the front as it is pulled from the center. Complete one side then the other.

  6. Step 6

Position the finished loops so that one is centered and the others radiate around it. Trim the short ends of the ribbon at an angle.

  7. Faux Bow

  8. Step 1

Start with a length of ribbon about 2 1/3 yards long. Cut the following pieces: one piece 3 inches long (for the center loop), two 4-inch pieces, two 5 inch pieces, two pieces 7 inches long and two pieces, each 8 inches long.

  9. Step 2

Cut the remaining piece in half for the tails of the bow and set them aside. Fold each of the sections (except the final two long tail pieces) in half. Use a hot glue gun to secure the ends. Scrunch up the ends of the pieces so they look "tied."

  10. Step 3

Take one of the the two longest pieces of ribbon and glue the ends together. This forms a loop, repeat with the second ribbon. Layered the ends of each individual loop, slightly over the other. The next is the largest loop and glue it to the juncture of the first two loops.

  11. Step 4

Continue adding the loops, largest to smallest, adding a dab of glue to the center each time.

  12. Step 5

Set the center loop in place last. Glue the two "tails" to the back of the bow. Cut the ends of the tails at an angle or an inverted V.
