How to Have a Mud Coffee Party

Have a completely different kind of coffee party--a Mud Coffee Party. Pick a warm, sunny day, invite some friends, get out the hose and play in the mud like you did when you were kids. Real coffee is strictly optional.

• Garden hose
• Toys
• Towels

Plan Your Party

1. Throw your party on warm, clear day. Mud can be cold, and you don't want your guests catching a chill.
2. Select a spot in your yard that's already muddy, or dig a shallow hole. With a garden hose, run water into the hole until it's nice and muddy.
3. Set out other mud-and-water themed toys like sprinklers, water pistols, and plastic shovels and pails. Make your party fancy and set a garden table with plastic coffee cups and saucers. Have hoses and towels available so your guests can clean up after the party.
4. Make some snacks so your friends can refuel while they play in the mud. Include coffee in your menu to reinforce the theme.
5. Call your friends and invite them over. Tell them they should wear clothes they don't mind getting dirty.

Play in the Mud

6. Frolic in the mud with your buddies. Play "Starbucks," where you take turns ordering mud coffee with ridiculous, complicated names. Fill plastic coffee mugs with mud coffee and throw it on the patrons.
7. Compete to see who can get the muddiest in a set amount of time. Start a mud fight. Take turns burying each other in the mud.
8. Draw mud murals on large pieces of white butcher paper. Give prizes for the best artistic expression. Play "spa" and take mud baths. Construct mud castles and make mud pies.
