Ever run across a website playing a song that you would love to download, but then you look for a link and you can't find it? With a little extra effort, you can load the track the file and save it using Windows Media Player.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1
Choose "Source" from the View Menu. The Windows notepad will open with the source code.
Step2
Open "Find" in the Edit Menu (CTRL +F.) The Find dialogue will open above the Notepad window.
Step3
Type "mp3" into the "Find What" box. Click on the "Find Next" button. Notepad will highlight the phrase (you may have to move the dialogue box.) It should part of a URL address. If you don't find it, try different music formats (".wav," ".aif".)
Step4
Copy the entire URL linking to the sound file and paste it into the address window. The song will load into Windows Media Player. Wait for it to play completely.
Step5
Save the file to your hard drive. Choose "Save Media As..." from the File Menu. Use the file browser to navigate to your music folder to save the file.

Tips & Warnings

  • If the sound file is loaded with a relative link (a reference to a filename instead of a URL,) change the URL in the original window. Replace the name of HTML file playing the sound with the name of the sound file. Keep everything else in the address the same.
  • This might not work if you change your default media player.
