When you move into a new neighborhood, one of the most important parts of settling in is feeling comfortable. Making friends who live nearby can help. Although making new friends is intimidating at any age, with a few simple tips, you can make great connections right where you live. Follow these tips for making friends in your new neighborhood.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1
Introduce yourself. It may seem obvious, but unless your new neighbors know your name, they may not be inclined to strike up a conversation with you. Shortly after you move in, walk over and say hello. This shows your neighbors that you're friendly and approachable.
Step2
Host a block party or barbecue. One great way to start making friends with your new neighbors is to socialize with them. A casual get-together like a picnic is the perfect way to begin to get to know your neighbors in a relaxed atmosphere.
Step3
Ask about local services or resources that you need. Looking for a good dentist or dry cleaner in your new neighborhood? Ask a neighbor for a recommendation. This helps start conversations and can help you find common interests to talk about later.
Step4
Attend community events. Whether it's a craft fair or local high school football game, attending events in your new neighborhood shows that you're interested in where you live. Chances are, you'll run into a few neighbors as well, and next time the event comes around, you might suggest attending together.
Step5
Remain neutral in neighborhood disputes. When you move into a new area, your new neighbors may try to fill you in on the local gossip. Staying out of previous arguments lets your neighbors know that you have a positive attitude and are interested in maintaining a happy atmosphere in the neighborhood.
