How to Prepare for the Death of a Loved One

Knowing that a loved one is going to die is very hard to deal with. The best thing to do is to make the best of the time you have left with your friend, and spend as much time with them as you can before they pass on.

Instructions

    • 1

Make sure that everyone in the person's family knows that he or she will pass away soon. This will give everyone the time to come and say goodbye.

    • 2

Spend as much time with your loved one as you can. If there is a strain in your relationship, or if there is something that you regret, let that person know, so you can both get closure before the time has come for him or her to pass away.

    • 3

Keep family members who can't be there posted with any changes that may be going on, and let them speak with the loved one over the phone or via webcam. This will help them get their own closure, especially since they cannot be there at that moment.

    • 4

Start making funeral arrangements so that there are no delays once the passing has occurred. Take into account your loved ones feelings, as well. If your loved one wants to be cremated, respect his wishes. If he or she only wants a small gathering with just family there, make sure this is done.

    • 5

Gather friends and family around your loved one and talk about old times and memories you have. There is nothing better than having a loved one's family around them as they make the transition from life into death.

    • 6

Finalize paperwork, such as a will. This will make sure there are no questions about how accounts, property and material items will be divided up between family members once your loved one passes.
