How to Do a Switcheroo on a Skateboard

The switcheroo is a beginning skateboard trick that's easy to learn and fun to do. If you're new to skateboarding, learning the switcheroo is a good way to prepare for performing harder tricks like the shuv-it and the ollie. On top of this, you don't need to manipulate the skateboard with your feet when doing a switcheroo, so you don't need good board skills to do it.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Step onto your skateboard and position your feet over the bolts. You can switch this position around a bit if you need more room, but make sure you're comfortably balanced.
Step2
Roll forward and give the ground a few kicks to build some speed. If you're new to skateboarding, take it easy and go slow at first.
Step3
Bend your knees a bit and lower your body into a slight crouch. Unlike the ollie, you don't need a deep knee bend to perform the switcheroo.
Step4
Twist your shoulders to the side and extend your arms downward for balance.
Step5
Uncoil your shoulders and jump into the air. Keep using your arms to stay balanced during the spin.
Step6
Complete a half-turn and land back on your skateboard. Space your feet evenly on the deck to avoid losing your footing and wiping out. If you feel wobbly during the landing, aim your feet for the middle of the board.

Tips & Warnings

  • Perform Steps 4 and 5 as quickly as you can to maximize your jump's height.
  • Don't try the switcheroo without wearing proper safety gear, including a helmet and pads.
