How to Perform John Cena's STFU

Responding to his critics' claims that he was not a good technical wrestler, John Cena added his own submission hold to his arsenal, the STFU. The STFU is a modified version of the Stepover Toehold Sleeper (STS), which itself is a variation of the Stepover Toehold Facelock. Cena named it to go along with his "FU" Death Valley Driver Slam.

Instructions

    • 1

Make sure your opponent is properly worn down and weakened from the match and is now lying face down in the ring. Cena's "FU" slam (carrying your opponent on your shoulders and slamming him sideways) will definitely work.

    • 2

Approach the opponent from behind, near his legs. Bend one leg back toward his torso and lock it between your own thighs at his ankle.

    • 3

Drop onto the opponent's back face down. Wrap your arms around his head and lock them with crossed hands in a sleeper hold position (as opposed to simply grabbing onto the head in a traditional STF).

    • 4

Bend the upper torso backwards with your crossed arms while pulling the leg towards the torso with your legs, applying pressure to the neck, back and knee (or at least make it look so--since we are talking pro wrestling).

Tips & Warnings

  • Besides the crossed hands, the other difference between an STFU and an STS is that you are going for more elevation of the upper body when you pull the neck back.

  • As with all submission holds, you want your opponent as close to the center of the ring as possible. This way, he can't reach the ropes and grab them, forcing you to release the hold.
