How to Get a Shadow Chao and a Sonic Chao
Sonic Adventure 2 Battle gives you the option of changing the color and attributes of your Chao. You can do this by socializing your Chao with Sonic or Shadow and feeding him certain Chaos Drives. Follow these steps to learn how to get a Shadow Chao and a Sonic Chao.

Get a Shadow Chao

Hatch your Chao from the Chao garden. Decide if you want your Chao to have a smile or not. The smile won't make a difference when you make him a Shadow Chao.

Socialize and raise your Chao with Shadow. Shadow must pet the Chao until he turns black.

Feed the Chao Green Chaos drives. Keep feeding the Chao until his running speed and stamina are at Level 22. This will turn him into a Dark Running Type Chao with green stripes on the hands, feet, wings, tail and quills.

Continue feeding the Chao Green Chaos Drives. This will turn the stripes red and he will resemble a Shadow Chao.
Get a Sonic Chao

Make a new Chao by hatching him from the Chao garden. Whether or not the Chao has a smile is up to you, as it won't make a difference when making a Sonic Chao.

Convert the Chao to a Neutral Chao. In order to convert the Chao to a Sonic Chao you must raise it with Sonic and Shadow.

Provide plenty of Green Chaos Drives for the Chao to eat. This will bring the Chao's running and stamina level up to Level 22. This will evolve the Chao into a Neutral Running Type Chao that is green in color and has three quills.

Change the Chao's color to blue by giving it more Green Chaos Drives. It will develop two more quills and will resemble Sonic.
