How to Load PDF Files Faster

The Internet has become the repository of documents that are stored in PDF format. One reason for this is that this format allows virtually anyone to view the documents using a freely available viewer written by Adobe. These documents have the drawback of loading slow and scrolling through the document can be slow. There are ways to load these files faster.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1
Switch applications that you use for a PDF viewer. Adobe Acrobat is noticeably slow in loading documents mainly because of all the plugins that are loaded into Acrobat when a document loads. Foxit is a very small but full featured program that will load any PDF document and even allows editing within the PDF file viewed.
Step2
Trim down the plugins that Acrobat or Acrobat reader load when a PDF file is loaded for viewing. If you simply don't feel comfortable using a reader other than the ones written by Adobe, then tweak the loading of plugins to speed the operation of viewing a PDF file. Don't enable or load plugins for content that you will not need. You can enable them later if you find that you need them.
Step3
Download the automated helper application, PDF SpeedUp, from the PC World download site. This helper function will aid in removing the unneeded plugins for content that is not normally within a PDF file. The user interface for the helper is visual and intuitive. This helper works with Acrobat versions three through seven and with Reader versions six and seven. The helper also cleans up unused icons within your PDF reader program.
