Fried cheese is a popular appetizer that's easy to make. It doesn't really require a specific recipe. A splash of this, a sprinkle of that and a bit of creativity with spices is all you need to prepare and fry cheese sticks or chips that are a hit anytime.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Olive oil
  • Small fry pan
  • Shredded cheddar or Colby cheese
  • Basil
  • Oregano
  • Pepper
  • Slotted spatula
  • Marinara sauce
  • Ranch dressing
  1. Step 1

Heat a couple splashes of olive oil in a small pan. The oil is ready when it sizzles after you flick a bit of water into it.

  2. Step 2

Scoop together a handful of shredded cheese, form a nice little mound with it and place it in the bubbling oil. If desired, sprinkle a bit of basil, oregano, pepper or your favorite spice on top.

  3. Step 3

Continue to fry the cheese for about a minute. Using a slotted spatula, carefully flip the cheese over and cook like a pancake until both sides are golden brown and slightly crispy.

  4. Step 4

Remove the cheese from the pan and drain on paper towels. Break into chips and serve immediately with marinara sauce or ranch dressing.

Tips & Warnings
  • Hard cheeses such as cheddar and Colby work well when fried because cooking at high temperatures doesn't make them as gooey as other cheeses.
