How to Host a Wine Tasting Contest

Looking for something new and fun to try with your friends, co-workers or neighbors? Host an evening wine tasting. This is great for a get together, a birthday party, shower or other special occasion.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

• 10 to 12 friends
• 10 to 12 bottles of wine
• Glasses
• Poker chips
• Finger foods
• Coffee beans
• Prize

1. Pick one variety of wine. This can be whites, reds, French, Italian or domestic.
2. Invite 12 friends and have each one be responsible for bringing one bottle of your selected variety.
3. Know that most wine bottles are 25.4 ounces and a taste of wine is two ounces. You should get 12 tastings from one bottle of wine. Each drinker and each wine should have its own glass so have plenty on hand.
4. Keep coffee beans available for sniffing to clear the palette.
5. Give each friend a poker chip for each bottle of wine they will taste. If they like the wine, they give you a chip. Keep track of which bottle gets “chipped.”
6. Count the chips for each bottle of wine. The bottle with the most chips wins the tasting.
7. Present the owner of the winning bottle with a prize or collect $5 from each participant. The winner will collect $60. In cases of a tie, split the winnings.

Tips & Warnings

• Put on some jazz or blues and dim the lights to create that wine bar effect.
• Be responsible. Ensure your guests don't drink and drive.
