Things You'll Need:
- Completed art work
- Brochure
- Website
-
Step 1
Consider hiring an art consultant if you are fresh into the business and not sure how to show your work.
-
Step 2
To save money, start local. Visit local art galleries in your area. Note the type of art they showcase. Don’t waste your time with a gallery that shows landscape and you paint abstract. Evaluate the gallery and make sure you present what their market will buy. Many galleries will charge a monthly fee plus a commission for any art they sell. Ask the gallery when will they accept submissions and how you can present to them.
-
Step 3
Be aware that coffeehouses and wine shops in your area will also showcase local art. Unlike art galleries, they tend to carry an eclectic mix of art. But, like galleries, they usually charge a fee plus commission.
-
Step 4
Consider an art show if you have the time and money. You will need to submit an application, fee, samples of your work and wait for the call that you’ve been accepted. Art shows travel so you will too. Consider the cost of travel for you, your work and stays in hotels.
-
Step 5
Sell with an online gallery. Along with other artists, they display your art for many online costumers. Make sure they advertise on search engines.
-
Step 6
Have your website and brochure up and running. Both items should include information about you, your style, contact information and pictures of your work. Don’t be afraid to include a price. Your website designer should provide a solid cache of keywords for “hits” to your website.
-
Step 7
Drive business to your website. For any art you show or display, attach information on your website. Also, have businesses provide a link to your website. For example, a local social networking site can provide a link to your site. Before you pay, ask how many hits they receive in a week.
