Make cute cacti gardens in old mugs.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Mug
  • Cacti plants
  • Drill
  • Cacti compost
  • Gravel
  1. Step 1

    Select your plants, smaller growing species will be more suited to the size of the mug.

  2. Step 2

    Drill a hole in the bottom of the mug.

  3. Step 3

    Fill the mug with cacti compost (or multi-purpose compost and sand mix).

  4. Step 4

    Arrange plant(s) in mug.

  5. Step 5

    Dress the top with gravel, colourful gravel may be more decorative.

Tips & Warnings
  • Choose different growing form cacti, some may be barrel others sprawling. Choose a mixture for added interest.
  • A tea cup and saucer may also be used, delicate plants will suit them well.
  • Keep space between plants, allow room for growth as disease will spread amongst crammed in plants.
  • Be careful with drilling the hole, if not done correctly the mug may shatter.
  • Hold mug steady while drilling to avoid cracks or the mug shattering.
  • Spines on cacti can be lethal, keep the mug out of the reach of small children.
  • Wash hands after handling compost.
